Schools may schedule protests for students, and try to make them mandatory.
FAIR supports raising awareness of true injustices toward any group, but we also support allowing people to disagree with protests or hold alternative perspectives without being subjected to harassment and bullying. To that end, we support students’ rights to abstain from participating in activities they do not support, and hope that schools will work hard to protect students’ rights to free expression and inquiry regardless of the position they take on the issues.
If this concerns you, please feel free to download and edit our template letter, and send it to authorities at your school to help protect students’ rights explore and express their beliefs on important matters.
