FAIR Alberta is aware of Dr. Jordan Peterson’s ongoing sanctions by a professional body based on statements that he made in public but outside of his practice.
The degree to which a professional body can Influence the speech of its constituents in the public square is an issue for Canadians of all political stripes.
FAIR Alberta believes this kind of behaviour, coercion, and censorship is unacceptable and at odds with Canada’s fundamental freedoms of thought, belief, opinion, and expression.
We recognize that these kinds of issues are happening more frequently and are becoming more polarizing. We call on all parties in this matter to pause and reassess their positions. We acknowledge the thoughtful contributions of Winston Marshall, Neeraja Deshpande, and the CBC, among others, on the matter
“Freedoms of thought, belief, opinion, and expression.” Section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Winston Marshall for The Spectator.
Neeraja Deshpande For The Free Press (formerly Bari Weiss’ Substack) .
