Perspectives on Book Banning and Censorship Banned Books Week, October 5 - 11, 2025
Banned Books Week is an event highlighting the value of free and open access to information and is supported by a coalition of organizations dedicated to free expression. Since 1982, this annual event has focused on efforts across the United States to remove or restrict access to books and has also drawn national attention to the harms of censorship.
Its nature, form, and degree may change over time, but censorship remains a challenge to a democratic society. To mark Banned Books week and better understand the types of censorship we face today, FAIR in Libraries offers the following list of resources that examine the issue from multiple perspectives.
