\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn July, 2021, <\/strong>Allegheny County Council passed a motion<\/a> “urging” school districts in Allegheny County to include Critical Race Theory (CRT) as part of their curricula “as a means of providing students with an additional tool for comprehensively evaluating the role of race and racism in society.<\/span>”\u00a0 While this is a non-binding motion and mentions Critical Race Theory only as an additional tool, the possibility of it being incorporated into curricula in divisive and intolerant ways might leave parents and students with questions about how schools might choose to implement it.\u00a0 While CRT does make some valuable contributions to the conversation, such as broadening the voices that contribute to our understanding of history, the nature of CRT is that when applied, it may seek to invalidate all of the other tools that we might use to understand history and address issues of racism and intolerance, leaving the debate closed and the problems unsolved.\u00a0 Take a look at our letter<\/a> responding to this motion for more of FAIR’s thoughts on the issue.\n
