I'm a public school teacher in the California Bay Area. I've written professionally for blogs and a local newspaper. I am passionately dedicated to the discovery and advancement of truth, which informs my worldview above everything else. I refuse to teach my students any one ideology and instead teach them the skills needed to make up their own minds and come to their own conclusions. I am willing to risk my job to do so (and it is absurd that teaching in this way is a risk at all). I am also working to create a professional code of ethics for public school teachers, which, unlike other professions--medicine, psychotherapy, nursing, etc.--is lacking. The code of ethics would require heterodox perspectives and prohibit teaching based on any single ideology. Additionally, I am an advocate for school choice. Students and parents should be able to choose which schools they attend. Money should follow the students regardless of whether they choose a public or private school. Choosing where you or your child goes to school has always seemed an inarguable right to me. Now, though, school choice is more important than ever because students will not be able to escape this Critical ideology without it. And tax dollars--YOUR dollars--are being used to fund this ideology whether you want it or not. Think about that.
